Contributory Activities

We have a range of other timetabled activities which are useful for students in developing confidence, expressing themselves, misxing with other people, learning about themselves and joining in with others. These are:

Outdoor pursuits - a range of different activities, often chosen by the students, which get them active and excited about being out and about

Sport - joining in the pleasure of an active pursuit and learning the skills of different sports, to be used elsewhere.

Healthy living - recognising what foods are going to give you energy or nutrition or protection against infections and then following it through by choosing the right foods for meals.

Art - an opportunity for students to express themselves through the use of paint and related materials

Craft - creative expression and development of hand-eye co-ordination or fine motor skills to produce an article that might be sold to the general public

Music - a group activity in which students learn to play instruments, sing songs and develop short radio programmes for staff and students to hear

Sensory - relaxation techniques used and developed to improve the students' receptiveness to learning. Reiki is offered to those who might benefit and the college's own sensory facility is used by those who need that type of support and experience.

Photography - using the benefits of digital cameras to help students recognise eye-catching scenes as well as encouraging attention to detail and a steady hand!

All of these "contributory activities" play their part in helping the students to be more open to learning skills, learning about themselves and expressing themselves in a constructive way.
