Sports and Leisure

This session aims to promote a healthier and more active lifestyle by incorporating a variety of different sporting and leisurely activities. Students sample a range of different sports, including basketball, Boccia, netball, bowling, Zumba and horse riding, They also get the chance to visit a variety of interesting places such as the National Space centre and local museums. 

This session gives students the understanding of how to incorporate fitness into their lives and access facilities in the wider community. Personal care and good nutrition are also promoted. Students enhance their personal development skills through use of  communication, taking turns, making choices, working together as a team and  using different aspects of keeping safe when out in the community by participating in physical  activity.  

Students learn:

  • How to keep fit and healthy
  • Personal care
  • Team building skills
  • Keeping safe in the community
  • Accessing a variety of facilities in the community 
  • Building their confidence
  • Learning socially acceptable behaviours and rules when out in the community 
  • Developing their functional English, maths and communication skills
