Swimming sessions take place at local leisure centres. The learning takes place through real activities and in a community setting. The learning taking place will be tailored to the individual student. For example, one student may be learning personal care when accessing the showers as well as needing to swim for health and therapeutic reasons. Another student may be learning the steps involved in accessing the facility with greater independence, such as travelling to, paying, personal safety, using a locker. English, maths and communication skills that will be useful in real life are also taught within the activity.
