Work Experience

Every student will have a vocational element on their learing programme. The college also provides a variety of external work placements. As well as placing students with local employers such as animal sanctuaries, shops and cafes the college also has links with several national companies such as Tesco, McDonalds and the Leonard Cheshire disability group. Networking continues to enable our students to progress into supported employment in their home county.

Students gain skills such as:

•Experiencing and identifying whether they like or dislike certain vocations

•Gaining employability skills

•Developing transferable work skills e.g. working in new teams of people, listening and following instructions, communicating, following work rules and much more

•Plan and use public transport safely, progressing to independent travel

•Building on their understanding of stranger danger

•Organisational skills to attend a work experience placement i.e. wearing the correct uniform or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

• Develop an awareness of Health & Safety in the workplace and understand their responsibilities whilst at work

• Develop communication and social skills to be able to work alongside colleagues
