Small Animals

Homefield College has a Small Animals enterprise, comprising of rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens. As well as offering therapeutic learning through handling animals the enterprise also provides an ideal opportunity to develop self management techniques in order to hold animals and learning to look after others. Students also have the oppurtunity of gaining a vocational externally accredited qualification in animal care.

Students learn:

·        Develop an understanding of animal management - what animals need to live and be healthy

·         Access associated shops and facilities, such as local farms, pet shops and the vets

·         Work safely; safe use of and storage of garden tools and equipment, wearing protective clothing and staying safe in the sun

·         Transferable work skills, such as working with others, problem solving, self evaluation and developing confidence

·         English, maths and communication are embedded into everyday activities enabling students to develop their skills and apply them in a meaningful way
