Homefield College runs a Woodwork course. The course aims to develop student’s transferable working skills as well as everyday functional skills, including the ability to work on a task and complete it. Students also develop communication skills so that they are able to work safely together as a team. Students develop their problem solving ability and become involved in the planning and completion of a variety of Woodwork related projects.

Students learn to:

• Being safe in the workshop

• Following health and safety rules

• Work as a team in completing tasks

• Read instruction sheets or manuals to collect equipment and materials required for specific tasks.

• Follow pictorial or text job sheets to work with increased independence

• Learn to care for tools and return them safely to storage after use

• Tidy work benches and personal working space and understand the reasons why this is important

• Students have opportunities to gain formal qualifications, at entry level, in NPTC (City and Guilds) Skills for Working Life.
