Homefield College has an inclusive Horticultural team, which is open to all students and residents within the College.

Students learn:

·         Harvest fruit, vegetables and seeds

·         Develop an understanding of what plants need to grow and how they grow.

·         Garden maintenance skills; weeding, watering, preparing the ground

·         Work safely; safe use of and storage of garden tools and equipment, wearing protective clothing and staying safe in the sun

·         Transferable work skills, such as working with others, problem solving, self evaluation and developing confidence

·         English, maths and communication are embedded into everyday activities enabling students to develop their skills and apply them in a meaningful way

       ·         Students have opportunities to gain formal qualifications, at entry level, in NPTC (City and Guilds) Skills for Working Life. 


Our student led horticultural team has been involved with creating and maintaining a number of local flower beds. The photograph below is one of our planters located in the Sileby memorial park:
