Contract: Part-time (up to 25 hours per week), 52 weeks

Head of Quality and Standards

The Head of Quality & Standards will play a pivotal role in advancing the College’s mission through leading quality assurance and improvement initiatives across teaching, learning and assessment activities. The role ensures that students will receive the highest quality education and will report outcomes to the College’s Teaching, Learning and Assessment Committee.

Core Duties 

Role Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the College’s approach to enhancing teaching, learning and assessment standards.
  • Collaborate with the Vice Principal to design and implement the College’s self-assessment and quality improvement planning process, ensuring accurate evaluation and focused improvement activities.  
  • Establish regular quality performance improvement meetings with relevant teams.
  • Provide an independent assessment of education quality and various quality assurance initiatives to support continuous improvement. 
  • Oversee the College’s professional development policies, procedures and practices – including teacher training and mentoring programmes – to foster continuous personal and pedagogical development, sharing the best practice of a culture of collaboration and high standards.  
  • Lead the strategy and approach to capturing, implementing and acting on student feedback.  
  • Ensure compliance with external regulatory requirements through academic quality assurance processes and collaboration with college managers.  
  • Report to the College’s Teaching, Learning and Assessment Committee in all matters relating to quality assurance and improvement.  
  • Serve as a member of the Senior Management team.
  • Manage complaints related to academic standards or awarding body procedures.  
  • Co-ordinate and track progress in implementing the whole College quality cycle and calendar.  
  • Monitor student progress, development and quality improvement plan actions.
  • Quality Assure the monitoring of students to ensure gaps and underperformance are rapidly identified and addressed. 

Management Responsibilities:  

  • Work with the Executive Team to ensure that all key reports and supporting papers are prepared and presented in line with the requirements set out in the annual business cycle(s).
  • Lead the development of policy and procedure within the portfolio of the role, ensuring that these are kept up to date and are in line with legal and statutory requirements.
  • Provide effective leadership to employees within the team, championing the College’s values and embedding a coaching style of engagement with direct reports.
  • Provide effective and professional line management to your team throughout their employment journey. 
  • Manage budgets in accordance with organisational requirements and targets. 
  • Meet agreed departmental targets and deadlines. 
  • Ensure key data and reporting requirements are met. 
  • Contribute to the overall management of the College through working collaboratively with other managers on specific projects or to ensure consistent and effective processes. 
  • Ensure effective written / verbal communications within the organisation and with external stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrate best practice and ensure the implementation of all college policies and procedures. 
  • Ensure the efficient and effective use of all college resources, including staff. 
  • Work to continually improve the performance and practices of the organisation. 
  • Cover in the event of staff shortages or absences, in accordance with capabilities. 
  • Take ownership of own CPD to develop the skills and knowledge required to be at the forefront of own sphere of operation.
