Let’s Talk Careers in our newest episode of Beyond the Label

In the second episode of Beyond the Label, a Homefield College podcast where neurodiversity meets opportunity, we delve into one of the most important topics for young people who have learning and communication difficulties: careers.

What does the word career really mean to our students? What support do they need to get to where they want to be? And how can we, as staff, families and employers, better listen to their voices and open up more opportunities?

Hosted by Careers Lead Keleigh, this episode features honest, hopeful and thought-provoking conversations with students Grace, Savvy and Cameron, who each share their aspirations and what a meaningful future looks like to them.

We’re also joined by one of our alumni, Janvee, who talks about her journey from Homefield to further education and now to paid employment as a Teaching Assistant apprentice. Her story is one of resilience, ambition and the power of the right support at the right time.

Janvee’s dad, Dilip, also joins the conversation, highlighting the vital role that parents and carers play in supporting and championing young people’s career goals.

Careers aren’t just about jobs – they’re about purpose, independence and possibility. ‘Careers’ at Homefield means living your best life. And every young person deserves a future they can get excited about.

Whether you’re a teacher, employer, parent / carer or support worker, we encourage you to share this episode. These are the conversations we all need to be having – and listening to.
