Beyond the Label: Celebrating Alumni Success and Inclusive Workplaces

At Homefield, we believe that every student has the potential to achieve incredible things - especially when they’re supported in environments that champion inclusion, self-belief and opportunity.

In this special episode of our podcast series Beyond the Label, we’re shining a spotlight on two remarkable alumni whose journeys truly embody this vision.

This inspiring episode explores what happens when inclusive education and employment environments meet determination, passion and the right support at the right time.

Finola’s Story: From Pathway 3 to University Life

Finola began her Homefield journey as a Pathway 3 student. With tailored support and a strong desire to grow, she progressed into a Digital Communications Apprenticeship with us, gaining valuable experience at Homefield and building confidence in her skills.

Today, she’s thriving in her first year of Creative Writing at De Montfort University, embracing the challenges of university life and continuing to grow personally and professionally.

In the episode, Finola reflects on the pivotal moments that helped shape her path – from developing independence to navigating higher education – and shares practical advice for others starting similar journeys.

Mason’s Journey: From Supported Intern to Valued Employee

Mason’s journey started on Pathway 2, where he developed core life and employability skills. He went on to join Imago Venues on our Supported Internship programme, where he flourished with the right support network around him.

Now a valued employee at The Link Hotel, part of Imago Venues, Mason’s story is one of growth, confidence and finding a workplace where he is truly understood and supported.

We’re also joined by Mason’s colleague, Luke, who shares her perspective on inclusive work cultures, particularly around the support needed for autistic employees. His reflections reinforce just how powerful inclusive hiring practices can be for both the individual and the organisation.

Why These Stories Matter

These journeys aren’t just personal milestones, they’re powerful examples of what happens when education and employment environments are inclusive, flexible and supportive.

This episode isn’t just about celebrating two individuals in their life after Homefield. It’s about starting bigger conversations, about belonging, access and believing in potential.

Whether you’re a student, an educator, an employer or someone passionate about inclusion, Finola and Mason’s stories offer insight, encouragement and practical inspiration.
