Exciting partnership announcement: Homefield education programme at Menphys Hub

We are thrilled to announce our new partnership with Menphys, launching a Homefield education programme at their Menphys Hub in the heart of the South Wigston community.

This exciting initiative aims to empower students by offering real-world learning experiences right in their local area.

A promising start with Bertie and Aidan

Our pilot programme features two exceptional students, Bertie and Aidan, who are focusing on their transition to life beyond Homefield. Alongside dedicated staff members Lisa, Joanne and Rachel, they will attend the Menphys base one day a week.

Their first day marked a fantastic success, as they navigated travel routes, explored the local area and even experienced the buzz of a polling station. Bertie showcased his impressive local knowledge by guiding us to key community locations such as healthcare centres, takeaways and NWSLC College.

The afternoon was filled with enriching activities, including exploring fiction and non-fiction books in the library and engaging in fun, educational games.

Expanding horizons through community engagement

Aidan took his experience a step further by venturing into the community, where he had lunch with staff member Lynsey and learnt about customer service and volunteering opportunities available.

As a result of his enquiries, both Aidan and Bertie will have the chance to volunteer at the Menphys Hub on Thursday afternoons. This includes roles in the library, coffee shop and charity shop, with potential involvement in an upcoming pop-up charity shop in the Orson Wright room.

Looking forward: empowering future cohorts

We are incredibly proud of the progress Aidan and Bertie have made already, and we eagerly anticipate how this journey will unfold. This partnership not only enhances their learning experience but also provides pathways to ongoing opportunities beyond college.

As we look to the future, we are excited to welcome a full student cohort next year, further empowering students to become active, engaged citizens in their local communities.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to grow and develop this impactful partnership offer!
