Celebrating Student Success: Meet Our 2025 Award Winners

At Homefield College, we take pride in recognising the incredible achievements, resilience, and positive contributions our students make every day. This year, we’re celebrating two outstanding individuals who have gone above and beyond in their learning and personal development.

We’re thrilled to introduce Dan, winner of the Vic Myko Award for IT, and Bertie, our 2025 Homefield Champion.

Dan Wins the Vic Myko Award for IT

Pathway 3 student Dan is this year’s recipient of the Vic Myko Award for IT – a prestigious honour named in memory of our former Vice-Principal, Vic Myko. Vic was a passionate advocate for inclusion, the power of technology in education, and empowering young people to thrive in every aspect of life.

Dan has truly embodied these values throughout the year. His impact has been felt not only in lessons but also during his internal work placement with our IT team. His contributions have included:

  • Providing technical support to staff and fellow students
  • Confidently liaising with external IT contractors
  • Taking initiative and independently resolving technical issues
  • Supporting tutors and classmates with IT challenges during lessons

Dan has consistently shown professionalism, resilience and a growing technical skillset – qualities that highlight his strong potential for a career in digital or IT support.

To support his future development, Dan has received a £300 Curry’s voucher alongside his award, allowing him to invest in tech equipment of his choice. With a Supported Internship on the horizon in September, we are excited to see where Dan’s journey in IT will lead next!

Bertie Named the 2025 Homefield Champion of the Year

Pathway 2 graduate Bertie was awarded as our Homefield Champion of the Year – an award that recognises a student who truly lives out our college values, uplifts others, and leaves a lasting positive impression on the Homefield community.

Over the past year, Bertie has demonstrated extraordinary strength and commitment. He has:

  • Completed both the Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards
  • Taken on a micro-job and a volunteering role with Menphys
  • Brought consistent encouragement, positivity and humour to staff and peers

Bertie’s determination, team spirit, and infectious enthusiasm have made him a source of inspiration across the college. His personal growth and the way he supports those around him perfectly capture what it means to be a Homefield student.

We look forward to seeing Bertie continue to shine as he begins the next chapter of his journey with Menphys and beyond!

Honouring Student Excellence

Both Dan and Bertie are shining examples of how far dedication, passion and a supportive learning environment can take you. Their achievements this year remind us of the potential within every learner – and we couldn’t be prouder to celebrate their success.

Congratulations to both of our 2025 student award winners! Your hard work and positive spirit have made a lasting difference at Homefield, and we’re excited to see what comes next for you both!
