Teamwork and Tigers: Cayden’s College Rugby Event
At Homefield, we love seeing our students take the lead, develop real-world skills and share their passions with the wider college community. This term, Bespoke student Cayden did exactly that by completely organising and hosting a brilliant college rugby event for his peers.
Cayden took charge of the entire project from start to finish, demonstrating outstanding leadership and project management skills. He secured official funding via AoC Sport, arranged a fantastic venue through Sileby Vikings RFC and coordinated a delicious lunch provided by our very own Breward’s Coffee Shop.
A Passion for the Game
For Cayden, the inspiration behind the event came from a deep personal love for the sport. As a dedicated rugby fan, he wanted to share that excitement with fellow students:
I wanted to organise this event for students at Homefield to give them an insight into rugby, as I follow the Leicester Tigers every week.
Making the most of his personal connection to his favourite team Leicester Tigers, Cayden managed to secure some incredible support to make the day extra special: some amazing merch, the famous mascot of Welford the Tiger and an inflatable dartboard.

Action on the Pitch
The day was packed with energy and action. The participating students started the morning sharp with some fast-paced ladder drills, followed by rugby warm-ups and teamwork exercises.

After a well-deserved lunch break to refuel with hot dogs and treats from Breward’s, the students – alongside a few brave staff members who couldn’t resist joining in – took to the pitch for a short rugby game. Thankfully, the weather decided to cooperate for the occasion. As Cayden noted:
I think the day went really well! The students enjoyed it and the weather held out, which is a bonus for rugby.

Building Professional Coaching Skills
Organising a large-scale sporting event requires an immense amount of preparation, and Cayden used the opportunity to build on his communication, organisation and coaching abilities. Reflecting on his personal growth throughout the project, Cayden said:
I think the skills for me were communication with writing emails, and planning every week with different drills. I had a list of drills which helped me remember people’s roles. This has given me a combination of different skills within coaching rugby.
To wrap up an amazing day, everyone received medals to celebrate their hard work and teamwork. The absolute highlight of the celebrations was a group photo with a very special guest – Leicester Tigers mascot, Welford the Tiger!
For Cayden, collaborating with the club he has supported his entire life was an unforgettable experience:
I grew up as a Tiger, so working with my boyhood club was a privilege for me and I loved it!

Celebrating Success
We are incredibly proud of Cayden for showing such brilliant leadership, organisation and dedication in bringing this event together. He created a fantastic, inclusive experience for his peers while developing valuable vocational skills for his own future.
Amazing work, Cayden – you did an incredible job!
