Understanding the ‘Old Hollywood Murder Mystery’ Theme!

Heya, I’m Deanna and currently I’m doing work experience with the Marketing, Communications and Engagement team. I’m a Pathway 3 student at Homefield College and I am here to help you understand this year’s Summer Party theme.

Below you can find a variety of outfit ideas for all gender presentations, along with a definition surrounding the chosen theme.

This year’s theme is based around a very popular genre of movies based around the years of 1920s-1950s.

These movies were very focused on the murder mystery aspects, often including detective work within a series of clues, investigation and confrontation. There is also the aspect of the audience not knowing who the murderer could be either, which adds to the mystery of it all. Overall, nobody can be trusted, even with a good alibi.

When thinking about the theme, think of some of these examples: The Great Gatsby, Cluedo the game, Peaky Blinders, An Inspector Calls, and Sherlock Holmes. Try to picture how the different characters may look, any props or accessories they may have, and the overall colour palettes.

There are several ways that you can participate in this year’s theme, whether going for a more comfortable and casual look, or fully dressing the part, there are ways to keep to the theme.
