I’ve worked within the education sector throughout my career, first as a teacher in an 11-18 inner city Leicester school before moving to lecturer and management roles in a general Further Education College and latterly as part of the Academic Registry at Loughborough University, before retiring in March 2024.
I held a variety of posts when working in Further Education – being at different times a part-time and full-time lecturer, Head of Faculty for Technologies and Head of Faculty for Foundation Studies. As Director of Curriculum and member of the senior leadership team, I was responsible for ensuring the development and quality of the college-based curriculum and as such, have a broad level of experience and expertise in areas for which Trustees are responsible, together with a deep commitment to ensuring the best outcomes and experiences for students.
Why did I become a Trustee?
I became a Trustee at Homefield as a way of using the experience, expertise and skills I’ve acquired throughout my career to continue making a positive contribution to the future of its students and staff and to help shape and support the strategic direction of the College.
My likes and dislikes
I like:
- Spending time with my 14-month-old granddaughter is a joy.
- Walking in nature, particularly woodland, I find particularly relaxing.
- Solving puzzles. I’m currently researching my family’s history, which is a big puzzle but fascinating.
I dislike:
- Intolerance
- Reverse parking between 2 cars. I’m bad at it and get very stressed when there’s no alternative.
- Being stuck in traffic
